many ppl have told me to study civil engineering because it’s an independent career unlike others that you have to work for someone else where there is no financial freedom. Many ppl & Asians study Finance because they say they can earn alot of money from that. Is Finance a better career than civil engineering?

Both are two distinct professions and cannot be compared in terms of money !
Even in financial field you can work as an independent chartered accountant or financial adviser !
Similarly , many civil engineers work in a company and do not venture to practice independently !!

    Both can be independent careers.
You have to remember that Civil Engineers have to work with other entities like governmental agencies, Architects, other engineers like MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) Engineers, Structural Engineers, CM (Construction Managers), owners. So they are not that independent. That and most Civil Engineers do not own their own companies. You have to know how to work with a team on most projects.
Also you have to work underneath a licensed Civil Engineer for your first 4 years after graduating.

there is no “better” career, its all what you enjoy best. My dad is a civil engineer and he makes a ton of money operating his own business, and he wants me to take it over but i’d rather enter the field of mathematics and finance purely because it interests me more. I think if you want to look at the careers from a financial perspective to compare them (which i would not recommend), both of them would be equal. It really depends on where your strengths and weaknesses lie

Your career should be what you like to do. Otherwise, you will be miserable all the time at work. They say “If you are doing what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Meaning that it will not seem like work if you enjoy what you are doing.
    Money isn’t everything.
