My life was going good, just getting out of the low confidence, unnatural around girls thing, someone started liking me until my mom says some monk in Vietnam said I had to go over there and do some ritual involving burning 12 outfits or else I will die early. My family is very superstitious, I try not to but they kinda make me. This makes me want to give up all that is improving and just loose interest. Please, how can I ignore this? She says superstitious stuff that makes me not confident in myself and not be myself around others. How can I block this out too?

superstitious beliefs are from a world that grew up feeling helpless-filled with fear and that should have been left behind with the home land that you came from.They brought you here to be raised in a free culture and you should be allowed to enjoy the freedom they brought you here to experience.tell them how much you love and respect them but the old ways are not for your new life.You came here to become an american and that does not have a veil of superstition hanging over it.
I’m sorry but superstition is nothing unless you believe in it. I think you should let your parents know that you respect their beliefs but you don’t believe in them, and you wouldn’t like to participate in any of their activities(for lack of better word). I hope they take it well, good luck(:
