How Healthy Are You?
Before we go any further, let’s forget about being lean, strong, and fit. Just for a few moments let’s talk about health.
Let me get straight to the point, do you value your health?
Simply being overweight – not necessarily obese – increases the likelihood of developing numerous health conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. However, the greatest impact is simply on quality of life.
Recent studies suggest that nearly 400,000 people die each year from causes related to poor diet and physical inactivity. That’s a whopping 17% of all deaths! According to the National Institutes of Health, only tobacco use accounts for more deaths. Just imagine the fact that by the year 2010, poor diet and lack of physical activity will overtake smoking as the leading cause of preventable death.
As you can clearly see-something’s not quite right.
So, what is health? On the subconscious level we define it as “the absence of disease.” And for most people, health is less a goal than it is a nice idea or a concept.
Saving 10% of your income or losing 10lbs by June – those are goals.
Instead we talk about health, join gyms but never go, ea a few veggies every now and then, slip in and out of a diet and try with all our might to avoid the doctor. But, we may get serious for a few weeks or a few months…but, BUT there are the kids, and work, and keeping the house clean, and spouses – we just get drawn back into life.
No harm, no foul though. You’re healthy right? You’ll get around to it later. The tragic reality is “later” doesn’t come around until it’s almost TOO late. That’s when you’re already faced with a serious health scare or a frightening diagnosis.
If you are not exercising regularly or eating healthy foods, here’s the real message you should be receiving when it comes to your health: “Houston we have a problem.”
But don’t worry, there are ways that you can benefit from your “good intentions” and get yourself back into the gym to start living a healthier lifestyle. The thing is you will need quite a bit of motivation to break those bad habits. Truth be told, you can change your perspective and reinvent your life by re-programming your thought patterns.
It’s about time you value your health. It’s your only wealth. Start building a strong and healthy body right here!
